DHIC, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods and families in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. DHIC develops high-quality and attractive rental apartments and homeownership opportunities for families, seniors, and other individuals with modest or very limited incomes. DHIC’s Homeownership Center offers comprehensive homebuyer education, counseling and access to down payment assistance programs for first-time homebuyers and those who want to better manage their resources and stay in the home they have.

Since 1974, DHIC has built or renovated over 2,300 affordable rental apartment homes and more than 400 homes for sale, while serving thousands of individuals and families with housing support services. Currently, DHIC owns more than three dozen apartment communities across nine North Carolina counties and has four new projects under development, which consist of 600 new construction or rehab units.

DHIC is governed by a 15-person Board of Directors, with an 18.5 FTE-member staff and an operating budget of $3.1 million. The work of DHIC is funded through earned income and public and private support.

The Office Administrator will join a team of competent and high-producing professionals who are committed to the mission of DHIC. The Administrator will be the initial contact for visitors and callers to the DHIC office and perform administrative tasks crucial to the success of the organization. The Office Administrator will support the activities of DHIC’s senior management team and serve as the executive assistant to the President.

The Office Administrator is expected to maintain regular hours at the main DHIC administrative office located in vibrant downtown Raleigh. He/she will be asked to attend periodic site visits and various off-site meetings. The position may require a limited amount of evening or weekend work; working from home may be needed occasionally depending on critical deadlines, weather, or other circumstances.

The successful candidate will be a self-starting, detail-oriented, and resourceful administrative professional who is excited by DHIC’s mission. The Office Administrator will be called upon to fulfill the following key responsibilities:

  • Leadership Support:  Serve as the executive assistant to the President, performing tasks that include coordinating schedules, writing correspondence, scheduling travel, and other activities as needed. Schedule, organize, prepare for, and record meetings of DHIC’s Board of Directors. Act as a liaison to and provide administrative support for board members. Provide general support to the DHIC management team as needed.
  • Office Management:  Serve as the front-desk receptionist, greeting all visitors and answering and routing phone calls. Ensure the office common spaces, workroom, and storage spaces are clean, well-organized, and professional in appearance. Maintain office supplies and equipment, interfacing with vendors as needed. Retrieve, process, and distribute mail and faxes.
  • Data and File Management: Organize and maintain general administrative and board files. Maintain mailing list and donor databases.
  • Development Support: Capture donation information in donor software and create reports as needed; reconcile data with the Finance Department. Prepare monthly acknowledgement letters. Assist with grant reporting.
  • Event Coordination: Organize special events and partner meetings. Coordinate logistical aspects of dedications, grand openings, and other special events.

The Office Administrator’s responsibilities may be expanded depending on additional skills the candidate brings to the position.​

The ideal candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in administrative and office-related work.
  • Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Windows-based computer systems.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

The ideal candidate will also have the following preferred qualifications:

  • A two- or four-year degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Exposure to or experience working with a mission-driven, non-profit, or community development organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the affordable housing landscape.
  • Experience using data management systems, WordPress, Microsoft Access, and/or email marketing software.
  • Experience planning or coordinating special events.
  • Experience using social media for business or organizational promotion.
